Senior Field Scientist - Crop Protection R&D – Flexible in Southern Australia
We’re looking for a Senior Field Scientist (Principal Biologist) to lead critical field trial programs that bring next-generation crop protection solutions to market across Australia.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Senior Field Scientist, you will lead and manage field trial programs designed to evaluate new crop protection actives and product concepts. You will also:
Translate complex field data into clear technical insights, support regulatory submissions, and play a key role in new product launches.
Work closely with Field Sciences, Biology Leaders, Regulatory, Marketing, and Commercial teams, bringing deep local knowledge of Australian cropping systems to global innovation programs.
Engage in regular field travel across southern Australia and collaboration with contract research organisations, industry partners, and growers.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Own the full lifecycle of field trial programs; from protocol design and regulatory permitting to execution, data analysis, and reporting. You will also:
Manage trials conducted by external CROs and internal field teams, ensuring data quality, integrity, and compliance
Analyse and summarise trial data, delivering clear performance insights and recommendations to cross-functional teams
Author biology dossiers (APVMA Part 8) to support product registration and positioning
Represent R&D on local product concept and launch teams, contributing to GAP development and business cases
Provide technical input to sales, marketing, and customer technology specialists ahead of and during product launches
Monitor resistance trends, competitive performance, and emerging technologies in Australian agriculture
Build strong relationships with research partners, growers, universities, and government bodies
Champion the companies safety, stewardship, and compliance standards in all field activities
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
Tertiary qualification (BSc, MSc, or PhD) in agricultural, biological, or plant health sciences
5+ years’ experience in crop protection, plant health, or applied agricultural R&D
Strong expertise in field trial design, statistics, data analysis, and presentation
Proven experience preparing scientific biology dossiers for product registration
Solid understanding of Australian cropping systems and agronomic practices
Excellent stakeholder skills — comfortable working with growers, CROs, regulators, and commercial teams
A practical, solutions-focused mindset with a strong commitment to safety and stewardship
