Agronomist – Cane, Legumes & Livestock – Whitsunday Region

 

Are you passionate about agriculture and helping growers achieve better crop performance and profitability? We’re looking for a motivated Agronomist to join our team in Proserpine and play a key role supporting local growers across the region.

This role offers the opportunity to combine technical agronomy expertise with strong customer relationships, working directly with growers to deliver practical solutions that improve productivity, sustainability, and farm profitability.

About the role

As an Agronomist, you will provide technical advice, crop production support, and product solutions to growers while building long-term relationships within the agricultural community. You’ll work closely with customers to optimise crop nutrition, chemical programs, and farm practices while supporting the supply and sale of agricultural inputs including fertilisers and crop protection products. 

Key Responsibilities

Grower Support & Sales

  • Develop strong, long-term relationships with growers and agricultural suppliers

  • Provide expert advice on crop production, fertiliser programs, and chemical application

  • Support customers with product selection and correct usage

  • Deliver agricultural inputs including fertilisers, chemicals, and related products to farms when required

  • Assist with rural merchandise and retail operations

  • Represent the business at industry field days, grower meetings, and supplier events

Agronomic Services

  • Conduct soil testing, crop inspections, and field monitoring

  • Develop nutrient management plans, including Nitrogen and Phosphorus budgets

  • Assist growers with fertiliser and chemical calibration for accurate application

  • Establish and manage field trials and demonstration sites to evaluate new products and agronomic practices

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of agronomic practices, products, and industry regulations

About You

We’re looking for someone who enjoys working with growers, solving crop challenges, and building lasting relationships within the agricultural sector.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience in agronomy sales or rural merchandise

  • Knowledge of the sugarcane industry

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Practical understanding of crop nutrition, fertiliser programs, and chemical applications

  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple grower relationships

Desirable Qualifications

  • Degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Science, or related field

  • Industry accreditations such as:

    • NAA Accreditation

    • Fertcare Accreditation

    • AgSafe Accreditation

  • Translate complex field data into clear technical insights, support regulatory submissions, and play a key role in new product launches.

  • Work closely with Field Sciences, Biology Leaders, Regulatory, Marketing, and Commercial teams, bringing deep local knowledge of Australian cropping systems to global innovation programs.

  • Engage in regular field travel across southern Australia and collaboration with contract research organisations, industry partners, and growers.
