Farm Manager – Beef Herd Development – Northern Tasmania
We are looking for a motivated Farm Manager to take a leading role in the next phase of development at Woolnorth, our 9,600-acre property in north-west Tasmania. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of a large-scale cattle operation as it evolves from a proven backgrounding enterprise into a premium 3,500-head Angus breeding business.
This role offers far more than day-to-day farm management. It is a genuine opportunity to help deliver a major operational transformation—establishing a new breeding herd, improving infrastructure, renovating pasture systems and contributing to a long-term development project with visible, lasting outcomes. For someone who enjoys building, improving and taking ownership, this is a role with real scope and legacy.
About the Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will lead the day-to-day beef enterprise at Woolnorth and play a key role in delivering the property’s transition into a high-performing Angus breeding operation. You will oversee livestock performance, pasture systems, infrastructure and team leadership, while helping drive long-term operational improvement across the property.
This role is suited to an experienced beef cattle professional who is practical, hands-on and motivated by the opportunity to contribute to a significant and visible agricultural project.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all day-to-day beef cattle operations across the Woolnorth herd, including animal husbandry, herd health, calving, weaning, mating and low-stress stock handling
Support the introduction and management of premium Angus genetics to establish a high-performance, self-replacing breeding herd
Manage pasture and grazing systems to optimise recovery, stocking rates and paddock utilisation across a dryland operation
Oversee infrastructure maintenance and property improvements including fencing, water systems, stockyards and pasture renovation
Lead and develop the on-property team, setting clear expectations and maintaining a strong safety culture
Maintain accurate operational records and provide timely reporting on livestock performance, pasture condition and works progress
About You
You are an experienced beef cattle operator with strong leadership capability and a practical approach to running productive grazing systems. You lead by example, communicate clearly and take pride in maintaining high standards across livestock, land and people.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Minimum 5 years’ experience in beef cattle operations with demonstrated leadership responsibility
Strong understanding of breeding herd management and cattle production systems
Experience managing rotational or cell grazing systems in a dryland environment
Practical pasture management capability, including species recognition, condition assessment and renovation planning
Proven ability to lead and manage a small team
Sound experience in property maintenance, infrastructure oversight and operational reporting
Strong low-stress stock handling skills
Current Driver’s Licence (motorcycle licence advantageous)
Australian work rights
Certificate III in Agriculture or higher preferred (practical experience and leadership highly regarded)
What’s on Offer
Competitive salary package aligned with senior responsibility
Fully furnished family home provided on property
Work vehicle supplied for all work purposes
Opportunity to lead a significant livestock transition project with genuine long-term legacy
Backing of a well-established, family-owned business with scale, resources and long-term vision
